La Rosa - Stout


Quinta de la Rosa, a pioneering producer of ports and wines in northern Portugal’s Douro valley, has started producing beer.
The brewing venture is a family affair.  Philip Bergqvist has been leading this new venture with the help of his nephew Kit Weaver and, of course, La Rosa’s wine maker, Jorge Moreira.



This beer is unpasteurised and should be stored in a cool, environment. The perfect serving temperature of this beer is about 4°C. It can throw a small sediment and this is normal for hand crafted beer.



Quinta de la Rosa's stout beer features a dark brown in colour with aromas of roasted coffee, dark chocolate, caramel, and spices along with notes of ripe fruit from the Douro. It is a full-bodied beer with complex flavours mirroring the structure and elegance of Quinta de la Rosa’s Finest Reserve port.


The beer is produced at Quinta de la Rosa in small batches of about 1000 liters.
We use Maris Otter barley, Oats and a variety of hops in the various stages of production Magnum and Brewers Gold.
The beer is fermented in stainless steel tanks at 20° - 22°C for about 10 days. Half of the resulting beer is aged in used Finest Reserve port oak barrels, with the other half aging in stainless steel vats before being blended. The beer is bottled.
Due to the hand crafted nature of this beer some variation may occur between batches.



We practice a sustainable agricultural regime being part of ADVID & SATIVA.  We don’t use genetically modified organisms nor do we use animal products.  We recycle where possible and are HACCP & BRC rated.
