There is a small supermarket, a baker and two butchers in Pinhão where you can buy most things.
Approaching the village from Quinta de la Rosa, the butcher on the left hand side, before reaching the train station will offer you an excellent tasting of home cured meats. It has 400 different ways of curing its meats.
Shopping hours: 9. 00 – 12. 00 hrs and 14.00 – 19.00 hrs NB On Saturday everything closes at 1pm.
A wider selection of shops and larger supermarkets is available in Régua (30 minutes drive downstream), Vila Real (40 minutes) or Alijó (20 minutes).
The bank in Pinhão opens from 9.00 – 14.45 (Monday to Friday). It also has a cash machine.
On the first Sunday of each month there is a small market down by the river in Pinhão. Every Wednesday there is a market in Régua and on Tuesdays and Fridays in Vila Real. Don’t get too excited by the markets as there isn’t a huge offer of local crafts or food produce.
You can get a few things from Pinhão (baskets, simple pottery). A much better selection is available at Casa Amarela - a small handicraft shop in Provezende. Worth a visit to see the village and church as well.
