The terroir in the Douro offers incredible opportunity. None more so than La Rosa’s whose ideal location a mere 2km from Pinhão in the epicentre of the Cima Corgo sub-region, is home to some of the region’s finest vineyards.
They rise dramatically out of the river with the imposing Vale do Inferno vineyard and climb majestically up to an altitude of 400m with Lamelas, whose magnificent views overlook the very heart of the region. The estate’s grapes are all category A – the very best the Douro has to offer.

The 62 hectares of vine are perfectly nestled on the north bank of the river and have been systematically replanted to ensure optimal balance and complexity. The morning sun, along with the schist soils and extremely varied topography give each vineyard their own distinct characteristics that enable our rich, full bodied wines to have remarkable acidity, minerality, and freshness. And it is this for which La Rosa has become renown; elegant wines that express terroir in bottle with out too much extraction, tannin, or oak.
The vast majority of our production is red wine and port. However, in recent years Douro whites have really come into focus and have grown in stature. La Rosa’s whites are characterised by their remarkable freshness and minerality that belie the valley’s extreme heat. Going forward we are committed to continuous experimentation and improvement of our whites, as a result, in 2019 we replanted 2.3 hectares of Cerejinha vineyard with Alvarinho, Arinto and, Gouveio.

We are located in Northern Portugal in the Cima Corgo sub-region of the Douro Valley, the oldest demarcated wine region in the world. We are easily accessible – just 2km from to the town of Pinhão and a 20-minute drive from Regua. It’s only 1.5hrs drive from Porto airport or 2.5hrs train ride from central Porto to Pinhão.

Named after the abandoned mountain railway line that is found on the property, Quinta do Passagem is located opposite Vale Meão in the heart of the Douro Superior. This sub-region that has a long history of making some of the best wines in the world.
The 100-hectare property was bought by Quinta de la Rosa’s Bergqvist family in 2005. A joint venture with esteemed winemaker Jorge Moreira, Passagem seeks to highlight the Douro Superior’s enormous potential through expressive wines that combine the rich refined fruits of the Douro Superior with Jorge’s desire for perfect poise and freshness.

Much has changed since we purchase Passagem in 2005. Originally, the property had 9 hectares under vine, we planted a further 20 hectares with the construction of new patamares on the steeper slopes, as well as vertical planted vineyards near the river. As many of the estate’s vines were replanted in 2005, they are now coming into their own. Such is the quality and potential of Bandeiras’ vines that the Passagem Grande Reserva 2009 won Essência do Vinho’s best wine in Portugal in 2017.
More recently, we have replanted the 9 hectares we inherited at higher altitude with white grapes after the successes of the Passagem Reserva Branco.
